135 fresh Covid-19 cases diagnosed in Rangpur today

RANGPUR, Jan 26, 2022 (BSS) – A total of 135 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 373 samples at two Covid- 19 laboratories at 36.19 percent positivity rate in Rangpur division on Wednesday.  

Health officials said the pandemic situation is rapidly deteriorating as the number of Covid-19 cases continues rising hastily everyday during the last two weeks.   

Earlier, the average daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 39.72 percent on Tuesday, 35.80 percent on Monday, 43.57 percent on Sunday, 36.59 percent on Saturday, 22.60 percent on Friday and 28.92 percent on Thursday last in the division.    

Among the 135 new patients, 59 were reported positive after testing 185 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at the 31.89 percent positivity rate today.

“The 59 new patients include 52 from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha and four from Lalmonirhat districts,” said Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy.

On the other hand, 76 new patients were reported positive after testing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the 40.43 percent positivity rate today.

“The 76 new patients include 65 from Dinajpur, three from Nilphamari, one from Panchagarh and seven from Thakurgaon districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain.   

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS that the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 57,670 as 135 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 57,670 patients include 13,059 of Rangpur, 3,930 Panchagarh, 4,662 of Nilphamari, 2,852 of Lalmonirhat, 4,700 of Kurigram, 7,913 of Thakurgaon, 15,552 of Dinajpur and 5,002 of Gaibandha in the division,” he said.
