NARSINGDI, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - The Monohardi upazila administration has launched a coordinated assessment of waterlogging, damaged roads and culverts and riverbank erosion caused by days of heavy rainfall, with authorities pledging swift repairs and long-term mitigation measures.
The initiative follows directives from Health and Family Welfare Adviser Alhaj Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bokul.
An emergency meeting of the Upazila Disaster Management Committee, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M A Muhaimin Al Jihan, was held at the UNO's office on Tuesday. Officials from government departments, political leaders, journalists, teachers and civil society representatives attended.
The committee decided to immediately inspect affected areas and coordinate response efforts through the relevant government agencies.
Following the meeting, the UNO led a field visit with officials from the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), local political leaders and journalists.
The team inspected erosion along the Chalakchar-Borochapa road, riverbank erosion threatening homes in Paikan village of Borochapa union, damaged roads in Kaytergaon village, the collapsed culvert on the Kaytergaon-Jamalpur road and damaged sections of the road from the Monohardi Girls' School intersection to Drenerghat.
They also reviewed waterlogging and disruptions to communication across parts of the municipality and the upazila.
Officials said the upazila administration, BWDB, LGED, the Upazila Project Implementation Office, local public representatives and political leaders would jointly prioritise repairs to damaged infrastructure while pursuing permanent solutions to reduce future flood-related risks.
Separately, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Khidirpur Union Administrator Md Sajib Mia inspected waterlogged and damaged areas in Khidirpur union and initiated immediate remedial measures.
The upazila administration said it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue coordinating with all relevant agencies to minimise public suffering.
