CHUADANGA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)
arrested a man with eight gold bars during an anti-smuggling operation in
Goalpara village under Jibannagar upazila of the district today.
On a tip-off, a team from Maheshpur-58 BGB unit conducted a drive in Goalpara
border area around 8 am and intercepted Sikandar Ali, 40, son of Kassem
Mondal of the same village, while he was traveling toward the India-
Bangladesh border on a motorcycle, said a press release issued on Sunday
evening by Assistant Director Munshi Imdadur Rahman of the BGB-58 Battalion.
The BGB team recovered eight gold bars weighing a total of 793.69 grams after
searching his body. The estimated value of the gold bars is approximately
Taka about 1.39 crore.
Authorities also seized the motorcycle and a mobile phone used in the
smuggling attempt.
A case was filed with Jibannagar Police Station in this connection.
