Stolen oil, scrap recovered in two Coast Guard drives in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - Coast Guard has recovered stolen lube oil, diesel, scrap materials, batteries and indigenous weapons in two separate operations in the Patenga area of the city.

Two people were arrested during the drives, according to a press release issued today by Lieutenant Commander Suman Al Mukit, Media Officer of Coast Guard East Zone.

He said that on Wednesday night at around 11 pm, Coast Guard vessel "Shyamol Bangla" conducted a special operation based on confidential intelligence in the outer anchorage area under Patenga Police Station.

During the operation, 1,134 litres of lube oil, four batteries, Tk 2,225 in cash and three indigenous weapons (knives), stolen from a commercial ship, were recovered. The estimated value of the seized items is Tk 4,66,900. Two persons were arrested along with the boat used in the theft.

In another operation at around 4 am today, Coast Guard Outpost Patenga conducted a drive near Ghat No. 11 in Patenga, recovering 700 litres of diesel and two tons of scrap stolen from a commercial vessel. The estimated value of the recovered items is Tk 1,80,500.

A wooden boat used in smuggling was also seized. However, no arrests were made in this incident as the suspects fled sensing the presence of the Coast Guard.

Legal procedures against the detainees and the process of handing over the seized items are underway. Such operations will continue to curb smuggling and theft, the release added.
