Drugs, smuggled goods seized in Kushtia-Meherpur borders

KUSHTIA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered Indian drugs and various smuggled goods worth more than Taka 38 
lakh during separate anti-smuggling drives along the Kushtia and Meherpur border areas.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Kushtia Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, the operations were conducted on May 19 
and May 20 based on specific intelligence information.

Patrol teams from Jamalpur, Thotarpara, Ashrayan, Udaynagar, Chalishpara and Shewratola Border Outposts (BOPs) under the Kushtia Battalion carried out 
special raids in several border areas. 

During the operations, BGB personnel recovered a large quantity of Indian drugs and smuggled goods abandoned in fields, croplands and other deserted 
locations.

The seized items included 57 bottles of triprolidine hydrochloride and codeine phosphate syrup, 15 bottles of monogold cough syrup, eight bottles of 
Indian liquor, 6,260 dexamethasone tablets, 6,080 cyproheptadine tablets and 1,177 packets of leaf bidis.

BGB officials said the estimated value of the recovered narcotics and illegal goods stands at Taka 38,07,535.
