Woman killed after being hit by train in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - A 65-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a train at a rail crossing in Rajshahi city this morning.

The deceased was identified as Hasina Begum, wife of Rajab Ali, a resident of Narayanpur village in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district.

Police said the accident occurred around 8:30 am at the Gaurhanga rail gate in the city.

Rajshahi Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faisal Bin Ahsan confirmed the incident.

According to police and family sources, Hasina Begum had been staying in Rajshahi for the past 15 days at her daughter's house in Kesharhat area of Mohanpur upazila as her granddaughter was ill. She was on her way back to Satkhira in the morning when the accident happened.

She was reportedly hit by a down local train, the Mahananda Express, coming from Rohonpur in Chapainawabganj en route to Khulna while crossing the rail gate. She died on the spot.

Police said the body was recovered and handed over to her relatives as the family did not file any complaint over the incident. An unnatural death case has been registered in this regard.
