One killed, 2 injured in Khulna-Mongla highway in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - One person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle on the Khulna-Mongla highway in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat today. 

The deceased has been identified as Quader Faraji (52). He is a resident of Bavna village in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district and is the son of Abu Bakkar Siddique.

The accident occurred at around 9:15 am on Wednesday in the Chulkati area of the highway.

According to police and local sources, the motorcycle overturned when a speeding truck from the Khulna direction collided head-on with it. The motorcycle driver Quader Faraji died on the spot. The other two riders of the motorcycle were seriously injured at the time. 

The injured were rescued and rushed to the Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital. Their identities were not immediately known. 

Fakirhat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zafar told BSS that after the accident, police reached the spot, recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to the Bagerhat District Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He further said that the two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and legal action is in process in this regard.

Locals said that accidents often occur on the Khulna-Mongla highway due to excessive speed and reckless driving. They demanded increased surveillance on the highway and strict enforcement of traffic laws.
