THAKURGAON, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - Two friends were killed after their motorcycle lost control and crashed into a roadside island in Thakurgaon municipal town this morning.

The accident took place around 6am in the Gobindanagar Munshirhat area, confirmed Officer-in-Charge of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Mohammad Monir Hossain.

The deceased were identified as Ritwik, 25, son of Liton, and Ashik, 25, son of Abdul Mannan, both residents of Mathurapur village under Rahimanpur union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

Police said the two friends were travelling towards Thakurgaon town on a speeding motorcycle when the rider lost control while taking a turn in the Gobindanagar Munshirhat area. The motorcycle then hit a roadside island with force.

Ritwik died on the spot. Ashik was seriously injured and was rescued by Fire Service personnel and taken to Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.

OC Mohammad Monir Hossain said one of them died at the scene and the other at the hospital. Legal procedures are underway, he added.
