TANGAIL, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - A truck driver was killed after his vehicle overturned on the Jamuna Bridge-Dhaka-Tangail highway at Bhatkura area this morning.

The deceased was identified as Russell Mia, 20, son of Zahirul Islam of Sirajkandi area under Bhuapur upazila of the district.

Police said the truck, which was heading towards the north from Dhaka, lost control after the driver apparently fell asleep while reaching the Bhatkura area. 

The vehicle climbed onto the road divider and overturned, leaving the driver crushed underneath. He died on the spot.

On information, members of Tangail Fire Service rushed to the scene and recovered the body.

Elenga Highway Police Station Sergeant Sajidul Islam said the body was recovered and would be handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities.
