GAIBANDHA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Two persons were killed and five others injured in a collision between a pickup van and a battery-powered easy bike in the Kumarpora area on the Gaibandha-Dariapur road in Sadar Upazila of the district this afternoon. 

The deceased were identified as easy bike driver Farid Mia, 50, son of Pata Mia from Satnabari village under Sripur Union in Sundarganj Upazila and passenger Rustam Ali, 30, son of Masudar Rahman from Analartari village under Kholahati Union in Sadar Upazila. 

The identities of the injured could not be immediately confirmed. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition.

According to police, a pickup van was traveling from Gaibandha town toward Dariapur when it collided head-on with a battery-powered easy bike after reaching the Kumarpora area. The easy bike driver and one passenger died on the spot, while five other passengers were injured.

Locals rescued the injured and sent them to the Sadar Hospital. Upon receiving the news, police from the Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.

The front portion of the pickup van was badly damaged in the accident, while the easy bike was partially damaged. 

One critically injured person was transferred from the Sadar Hospital to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. 

After the accident, the driver and helper of the pickup van managed to flee the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun of the Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident. He said the bodies were handed over to the victims’ relatives after completing the legal procedures.
