NATORE, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Two school boys drowned in a pond in Baraigram upazila of Natore district on Tuesday afternoon.

The tragic incident occurred around 1.30 pm in Purnakalsa village under Gopalpur union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Arafat Rahman, 11, son of Mintu Mia and Mohammad Ali, 10, son of Raju Ahmed. Both were students of Class IV at Purnakalsa Government Primary School.

According to local sources, the boys went to bathe in a pond near their homes around 11:00 am. While bathing, they were reportedly playing with banana tree trunks in the water.

When the children did not return home for a long time, their family members began searching for them. Later, they were found in an unconscious condition underwater and rescued from the pond.

The children were immediately taken to a local private hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baraigram Police Station Abdus Salam confirmed the matter.
