NATORE, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - The government has undertaken a large-scale Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice distribution program in the district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, targeting 1 lakh 22 thousand 958 underprivileged families, including beneficiaries from Natore Municipality.
Under the initiative, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated 1,229.580 metric tons of rice for distribution across 52 unions under seven upazilas and eight municipalities in the district.
To ensure smooth implementation of the program within Natore Municipality, a preparatory meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon at the municipality’s conference room. The meeting was chaired by Md. Arif Hossain, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department and Administrator of Natore Municipality.
According to decisions taken at the meeting, each beneficiary family will receive 10 kilograms of rice. Distribution activities are scheduled to begin on May 21 and continue until May 24 on a ward-by-ward basis.
Authorities are currently finalizing the list of beneficiaries ahead of the distribution.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer AKM Shaha Alam Mollah said that among the total beneficiaries, 92,114 families from 52 unions under seven upazilas and 30,844 families from eight municipalities will receive VGF rice assistance.
Officials expressed hope that the initiative would provide much-needed support to low-income families ahead of the Eid celebrations.
