Over 3385 tonnes of VGF rice allocated for Gaibandha 

GAIBANDHA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - The government has allocated 3385 metric tonnes of rice for the distressed and ultra-poor of the district on Eid-ul-Azha under the VGF programme.

 District relief and rehabilitation office source said the rice would be distributed to a total of 3, 38, 560 VGF cardholders of the seven upazilas, including four pourashavas, in the district before Eid-ul-azha. 

 Of the total, 26, 212 cards are allocated for Fulchhari Upazila, 71,256 for Sundarganj Upazila, 40, 475 for Shaghata Upazila, 66529 for Gobindaganj Upazila, 41, 116 for Sadullapur Upazila, 57, 946 for Sadar Upazila and 34,526 for Palashbari Upazila of the district.

 Apart from it, 4621 cards are allocated for Gaibandha Pourashava and Gobindaganj Pourashavas each, 3081cards for Sundarganj Pourashava, and 1540 cards for Palashbari Pourashava of the district, sources said.

 Each of the beneficiaries would get 10 KGs of rice so that they could celebrate the forthcoming Eid-ul-azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, without a food crisis, said the district relief and rehabilitation officer, Md. Shafiqul Islam. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Masuder Rahman told the BSS that instructions were given to the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) along with project implementation officers (PIOs) to distribute the rice to the beneficiaries smoothly within a very short time.

Sundarganj UNO Effat Jahan Tuli and PIO Md. Moshiar Rahman said that, as per the directives of the DC, necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before the Eid festival without any criticism.
