RAJSHAHI, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested a teenager Jihan Mobarok, 17, with one kilogram of heroin during a raid in Godagari Upazila in the district.
An engine-powered boat used to transport the drugs was also seized.
Police said the estimated market value of the recovered heroin is around Tk 1 crore.
However, his accomplice Nasir Uddin, 53, managed to escape during the operation, evading police.
The arrested Jihan and absconding Nasir are residents of Kathalbariya village in Godagari Upazila.
Police said that around 10:30 PM on Thursday, a team from Godagari Model Police Station was conducting a routine anti-narcotics operation in the area.
Based on secret information, they raided the river ferry ghat in the Bidirpur area of Matikata Union in the upazila.
During the raid, two individuals tried to flee from a small dinghy boat anchored at the riverbank.
Later, after searching a yellow polythene bag kept in Jihan's possession, one kilogram of heroin was recovered.
At the same time, an engine-powered boat about 23 feet long used for transporting drugs was seized.
Following the incident, SI Md. Rezaul Karim of Godagari Model Police Station filed a case as the plaintiff. The arrested Jihan and absconding Nasir Uddin have been named as accused in the case.
According to police sources, there is already a previous case against the absconding Nasir Uddin under the Special Powers Act from 2015.
Operations to arrest the fugitive accused are underway.
