RAJSHAHI, May 15, 2026 (BSS) – The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has installed a traditional Dhopkol (water hydrant) at the Sikiribona rail crossing as part of an initiative to preserve the city’s cultural and historical heritage.

The project was carried out under the supervision of RCC Administrator Mahbubur Rahman Biton, who visited the site on Thursday night to monitor the installation work.

According to the city corporation, the initiative aims to highlight Rajshahi’s traditional heritage for younger generations while integrating heritage preservation into ongoing urban development projects.

The installation was incorporated alongside road development work on the stretch from Hetemkha Big Mosque to Bornali Road via Kazihata.

Talking to BSS, Enamul Haque, a businessman from the Laxmipur area, praised the initiative, saying it would help preserve disappearing local traditions and allow future generations to better understand the city’s historical lifestyle.

Officials noted that the Dhopkol, once a common feature of daily life in Rajshahi, has gradually disappeared due to modernization.

The latest installation is intended to revive its symbolic presence and preserve it as part of the city’s living heritage.
