BOGURA, May 15, 2026 (BSS) – Fulfilling a long-standing demand of local residents, the government has officially declared Bogura a city corporation, marking a major administrative upgrade for one of the country’s key urban centres in the northern region.
The Local Government Division yesterday published a gazette notification in this regard.
According to the gazette, issued under subsection (3) of Section 3 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009, the new Bogura City Corporation has been formed by incorporating the existing Bogura Municipality along with several adjoining areas.
The notification, signed by Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan, also outlined the jurisdiction and ward structure of the new city corporation.
The newly formed city corporation will comprise 21 wards. In addition to the current municipal area, a number of mouzas under Bogura Sadar and Shajahanpur upazilas have been brought under its jurisdiction.
The areas included in the expanded boundary are Phulbari, Nishindara, Katnarpara, Sutrapur, Chakbrindaban, Malgram, Thanthania, Garamara, Malotinagar, Latifpur, Phuldighi and Betgari.
