NETRAKONA, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - The local administration has seized a truck carrying around 20 tonnes (667 sacks) of government rice during an alleged smuggling attempt in Madan upazila of the district on Thursday night.

Police also detained the driver and his assistant in connection with the incident.

The seizure was made around 10 pm in front of Samya Filling Station on the Netrakona-Madan road.

According to police and local sources, the truck loaded with sacks bearing government seals was reportedly en route from the Madan Upazila Government Food Warehouse to Talukdar Rice Mill in Barhatta upazila when it was intercepted.

Acting on a tip-off, Madan Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shaolin Nahar, along with police personnel, stopped the vehicle after the driver failed to produce valid documents or provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the consignment.
