RAJSHAHI, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - A press conference was held in the city to mark the 50th anniversary of the historic Farakka Long March.
 
The press conference was organized today at a restaurant in the Shaheb Bazar area of the city.
 
Present at the press conference were Mahbub Siddiqui, Convener of the 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee of the Historic Farakka Long March Day; 
Joint Convener Advocate Enamul Haque; Member Secretary Hasanain Hikl; Joint Member Secretary Dr. Asim Hossain; and poet Mustak Ahmed, among others.
 
At the press conference, the speakers said that the historic long march held on May 16, 1976, from Rajshahi to protest the Farakka Barrage under the 
leadership of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani was a significant movement to secure Bangladesh's rightful share of water.
 
From the press conference, the speakers called on the new generation to become aware and active in protecting rivers, ensuring fair water 
distribution, and maintaining environmental balance.
