RAJSHAHI, May 14, 2026 (BSS)- The district administration has distributed cheques worth around Taka 1.24 crore to 12 landowners as compensation for land acquired for development projects in the district.
The cheques were formally handed over at a ceremony held on Wednesday in the Deputy Commissioner's conference room. The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam.
According to sources at the district administration office, the compensation was provided for land acquired under two projects: the "Upgradation of Baneshwar-Ishwardi District Highway to Regional Highway" project under the Roads Division of Rajshahi Zone, and the RMU establishment project.
During the event, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam said, "RMU is being established to ensure modern healthcare services, which will be a major achievement for the people of the region. The cooperation of landowners has played a crucial role in implementing this development work."
He noted that the government is providing compensation at nearly three times the market value of their land.
He added that the administration is making every effort to deliver compensation funds to landowners in the shortest possible time.
"Although there are legal complications in some cases, we are resolving them and distributing cheques in phases. The district administration will remain vigilant to ensure no citizen faces unnecessary suffering in the future," he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohinul Hasan, Land Acquisition Officer Abhijit Sarkar, and other district administration officials were present at the event.
After receiving the cheques, a sense of relief and satisfaction was observed among the affected landowners.
They expressed gratitude to the district administration for the compensation and wished the successful implementation of the related development projects.
