The government has announced plans to upgrade the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway to four lanes. The Detailed Project Plan (DPP) for a portion of the project has been approved, and work is set to commence soon. The Road Transport Minister emphasized the national significance of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway. A project to expand approximately 26.21 kilometers of the road to four lanes has been sanctioned under the Highway Improvement Project (Phase-1), with a target completion date of 2029. Additionally, a 2.66-kilometer six-lane flyover will be constructed as part of the project.

Currently, efforts are underway to widen the Satkania and Lohagara sections of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in three separate packages. The first package covers an 8.4-kilometer stretch from the head of Satkania road to the Rajghata area of Lohagara, with MAH Construction as the contractor and a project cost of Tk 35 crore. The second package spans 7 kilometers from the Rajghata area of Lohagara to the Chunati Mithar shop area, with MA Construction as the contractor and an allocation of 34 crore taka. The third package extends from Chunati Mithar shop in Lohagara to the Chunati Jangalia area.

MAH Construction, a contractor company, is currently working on a project with a budget of 30 crore taka to upgrade a 6-kilometer stretch of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway. As part of this project, approximately 1 kilometer of the highway in the Chunati Jangalia area is being expanded to 4 lanes.

Abu Hanif, Deputy Assistant Engineer of the Chattogram South Roads and Highways Department, explained that the current width of the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway is 21 feet. To widen it to 34 feet, the road is being expanded by 6 feet on both sides from the Satkania road to Chunati Jangalia. Additionally, the sharp bends along the route will be widened by 10-12 feet to improve safety of commuters.

Furthermore, a 900-meter section in the Chunati Jangalia area will be upgraded to 4 lanes with a divider in the middle. The construction work on widening the 4-lane highway is progressing rapidly, ensuring smoother and safer travel for commuters.
