CHATTOGRAM, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - A former bank official has been sentenced to eight years in jail for embezzling Tk 13,45,165  from Agrani Bank in Chattogram. 

The court of Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Mizanur Rahman delivered the verdict today against Md Fazle Azim, son of AKM Shah Alam from Khagrachhari. 

A fine of Tk 13,45,165 was also imposed for embezzlement, with an additional six months’ simple imprisonment in default of payment.

Three others were acquitted as the charges against them were not proven. 

The case details revealed that in 2011, while managing foreign remittances at the Bahaddarhat BT branch, Fazle Azim fabricated fake remittance reference numbers to embezzle funds from the bank's FDD (Al-Razi) account using counterfeit computer-generated receipts and transfer vouchers. 

ACC Assistant Director Zafar Ahmed filed a case with Chandgaon Police Station on March 20, 2019. Following the investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court, and the trial commenced on February 22, 2022, after charges were framed against the four accused.
