BHOLA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - District Livestock officials confirmed that 1,03,000 cattle are prepared for sacrifice this year, significantly exceeding the local demand of 81,020 animals.

The surplus cattle are expected to be supplied to other districts after meeting local requirements.

Livestock farmers in the district are passing busy days nurturing cattle with natural fodder as the holy Eid-ul-Azha approaches.

Farmers are focusing on natural fattening methods, using grass, oilcakes, and bran instead of harmful chemicals to ensure healthy and safe meat.

“I have been preparing my cattle with natural feed for five years, as these are highly sought after in the market,” said Timon Mia, a farmer from Alinagar Union.

However, many farmers expressed concerns over the high cost of animal feed and the potential influx of cattle from across the border, which could impact local prices. They have urged the administration to maintain strict vigilance.

District Livestock Officer Rafiqul Islam stated that 49 permanent and over 100 temporary cattle markets will be set up across the district.

“Twenty-four mobile medical teams from the livestock department will be on the ground to monitor animal health and prevent the sale of sick cattle,” he added.

Bhola Superintendent of Police, Md. Shahidullah Kawsar, assured that adequate security measures have been taken for the cattle markets.

He emphasized a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against extortion to ensure a smooth environment for buyers and sellers.
