KHULNA, May 11, 2026 (BSS)- Speakers at an anti-tobacco seminar here today urged the government for strict implementation of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act.
They stressed on massive campaign to discourage the production, use, sale and advertisement of tobacco products.
The seminar discussed in detail the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2025 and its amendment in 2026.
According to the law, smoking and use of tobacco products are prohibited in public places and public transport. The sale of tobacco and tobacco products is also prohibited within 100 meters of educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, playgrounds and children’s parks.
Any person violating the law may face fine of up to Taka 5,000, while repeated offense will be subject to double the penalty successively.
Officials from different government and non-government organizations and teachers of different school and colleges participated in the seminar arranged by local administration at the conference room of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Abdullah Harun and Director General of the National Tobacco Control Cell Md Akhtaruzzaman attended the seminar as guests.
