Tangail, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - The truck sale programme of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has begun in Tangail ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha to provide essential commodities at subsidized prices to low and middle-income people.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Tangail Sadar Dewan Asif inaugurated the programme on Monday morning at Shaheed Smriti Poura Udyan in the district town.
Following the inauguration, a large number of people gathered to purchase essential items from the TCB trucks.
Buyers said they were able to purchase soybean oil, sugar, and lentils at prices lower than the current market rates.
Despite long queues, many expressed satisfaction over the opportunity to buy the products at affordable prices. However, they also urged the authorities to ensure better management during product distribution.
According to the Tangail Sadar upazila administration, the special truck sale programme will continue from May 11 to May 21, excluding Fridays, for a total of 10 days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Under the initiative, around 4,000 low-income families will receive access to essential commodities every day through 10 trucks operating at 100 locations across 12 unions and the municipality area of Sadar upazila.
Under TCB-fixed prices, each family will be able to purchase 2 kilograms of lentils at Taka 80 per kg, 2 litres of soybean oil at Taka130 per litre and 1 kilogram of sugar at Taka 70 per kg.
District administration officials said the initiative has been launched to provide relief to low-income people and help keep the prices of essential commodities stable in the lead-up to Eid-ul-Azha.
