KHULNA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - A tribunal here today sentenced a young man to 17 years' rigorous imprisonment in an arms case.
Judge of the Khulna Tribunal for Prevention of Crimes Disrupting Public Security Sabera Sultana Khanam delivered the verdict against convict Md. Mehedi Hasan Momi alias Momi Jamaddar, 20.
The convict, son of Shamim Jamaddar of Pabla Hash Khamar area under Daulatpur Police Station, was absent during the pronouncement of the verdict.
Quoting the case statement, High Bench Assistant of the tribunal Mohammad Sayedul Haque Shahin said Sub-Inspector Alimuzzaman of Daulatpur Police Station received secret information that Md. Mehedi Hasan Momi, an accused in a case filed with the police station, was staying in front of Haque Saheb's house in the Fakirpara area of Pabla.
Following the information, he conducted a special drive in the area and arrested the accused around 11:15 pm on September 16, 2023.
During interrogation, the accused informed police that the firearm used by him had been kept at Kalptaru Market under Daulatpur Police Station.
Following the information, police conducted another raid and recovered a locally made one-shooter gun and five rounds of ammunition from an abandoned shop named "Naz Enterprise" at the market.
Sub-Inspector Alimuzzaman filed a case under the Arms Act with Daulatpur Police Station on September 17, 2023.
Later, investigation officer SI Mukul Khan submitted the charge sheet against the accused to the court on September 30 of the same year.
Seven out of nine prosecution witnesses testified before the court. The tribunal also issued an arrest warrant for the convict.
