KURIGRAM, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - A farmer was tragically killed after being struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in Nageshwari upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was Md. Obaidul Haque, 45, son of Md. Abdul Haque, a resident of Badijamalpur village of the upazila. He was working on his own land at the time of the incident.

According to family members and local sources, Obaidul was harvesting paddy when dark clouds suddenly gathered, followed by thunder and rainfall. During the storm, a bolt of lightning struck him directly, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Hil Zaman of Nageshwari Police Station confirmed the matter.
