JHENAIDAH, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - A youth died after being electrocuted in 
Shatbaria village under Kaliganj upazila of the district on Wednesday 
morning. 

The deceased was Shamim Hossain, 19, son of Ariful Islam from Bethuli village 
in the same upazila. Another youth Babu was injured in the same incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 8:30 am when Shamim 
was transporting paddy using a diesel-powered trolley from a field in 
Monoharpur village. While unloading the paddy, the trolley reportedly came 
into contact with an electric wire linked to a paddy threshing machine. As a 
result, both Shamim and Babu were electrocuted.

Locals quickly rescued them and rushed them to Kaliganj Upazila Health 
Complex where the attending doctor declared Shamim dead. The injured Babu was 
later transferred to Jashore General Hospital for advanced treatment.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jellal Hossain confirmed the 
matter.
