BAGERHAT, May 5, 2026 (BSS) - Police seized a large quantity of illegal 
'current' fishing nets during an operation in the Chitalmari upazila of the 
district.

Officials estimated the market value of the seized nets at around Taka 20 
lakh. The nets were later destroyed under the supervision of the 
administration

The operation was conducted by the Borobaria Police Camp at around 10:00 AM 
today in an abandoned house near the Kunia Bus Stand area of the upazila.

Police said the operation followed information that a criminal syndicate had 
long been stockpiling foreign-made illegal current nets for a long time for 
sell.

Acting on the tip-off, a team led by Chitalmari Police Station Officer-in-
Charge Nazrul Islam raided the spot, conducted a search, and recovered the 
nets.

Police mentioned that no one has been arrested in connection with this 
incident so far, and the process of filing a case is currently underway.
