One held with stolen clothes worth Tk 60 lakh in Noakhali

CHATTOGRAM, May 5, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested a 26-years-old man over stealing 163 rolls of clothes worth Tk 60 lakh while transporting the goods from Chattogram to Gazipur.

The arrestee has been identified as Abul Basar.

Meanwhile, the DB on information conducted a drive and recovered the stolen clothes from Hatiya and Char Jabbar areas of Noakhali on Monday, said CMP Assistant Commissioner (Public Relations) Aminur Rashid.

He said Abul Basar is currently under interrogation and police operation is underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang involved.

According to police and case sources, 163 rolls of cloth imported by Columbia Apparels Limited were being transported from Chattogram Port to Gazipur in a covered van on the night of April 24. The vehicle made a stop at the Chattogram Filling Station on the toll road under Halishahar Police Station and resumed its journey to Gazipur around 3 am on April 25.

However, before reaching the destination, the driver and his accomplices absconded with the entire shipment of goods and went into hiding. A fraud case was filed at Halishahar Police Station in Chattogram on April 27 in connection with this incident.

Detective Police revealed that acting on a confidential tip-off, a team conducted a raid in the Azimnagar area of Harini Union in Noakhali on Monday and recovered 96 rolls of cloth. Subsequently, the remaining 67 rolls of cloth were found in the Bhuiyar Hat Bazar area of Char Jabbar Police Station. The estimated market value of the recovered cloth in the raid is Tk 6 million.
