BGB seizes Indian sarees worth over Tk 1.70 Crore in Cumilla border

CUMILLA, May 4, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have 
seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian sarees worth over Taka 1.70 
crore during an anti-smuggling drive along the Cumilla border.

According to a BGB press release, the operation was conducted in the 
Shashidal border area under Brahmanpara upazila by a patrol team from 
Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), acting on specific intelligence received 
earlier in the day.

During the raid, BGB personnel recovered a substantial quantity of high-
quality Indian sarees being smuggled into the country illegally. 

The value of the seized goods has been estimated at Taka 1,70,17,000.

The seized items are currently in the process of being handed over to the 
concerned customs office following due legal procedures.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, Commanding Officer of Sultanpur 
Battalion, stated that BGB remains committed to ensuring border security and 
preventing smuggling activities. 

He emphasized that intelligence surveillance and operational efforts have 
been further strengthened in the area, and such operation will continue in 
the future.

The BGB reiterated its duties to uphold security and public trust along the 
border.
