14 banned BCL, Jubo League men held in Ctg, case filed

CHATTOGRAM, May 4, 2026 (BSS) - Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 14 leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League who were arrested during a secret meeting in the Halishahar area of the city.

The case was lodged on Monday by Sub-Inspector Md. Noman of the Metropolitan Detective Branch at Halishahar Police Station.

According to police, the arrests were made during a raid around 9:30 pm on Sunday at the 'Tayef' restaurant on Nayabazar Bishwa Road, based on intelligence reports. In addition to the 14 detainees, the case names 90-95 unidentified individuals as accused.

The arrested individuals are Md. Shahidul Islam (37), Md. Nayon (19), Mehedi Hasan Sohan (21), Md. Ibrahim (24), Sajjad Hossain Rakib (24), Md. Ismail (26), Rabiul Islam Raju (20), Md. Shakil Khan (20), Md. Rajib (29), Md. Ashraful (19), Zahed Hossain (34), Md. Arif (25), Md. Rafi (20) and Imam Hossain (30).

Police allege that the group was planning sabotage and anti-government activities using platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp. Investigators say the meeting was intended to coordinate anti-state activities with leaders living abroad.

Shahidul Islam, identified as the main organizer of "Sheikh Hasina Oikya Parishad," is accused of leading the network. Two mobile phones seized from him reportedly contained Telegram and WhatsApp groups used to organize activities under names including "Chattogram South," "Chattogram North" and "Feni District."

Authorities said he had long been involved in anti-state operations, while the others were active participants under his direction.

Officer-in-Charge Kazi Md. Sultan Ahsan Uddin confirmed that the accused were presented before a court on Monday and subsequently sent to jail.
