BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 63.38 lakh in Cumilla

CUMILLA, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized illegal Indian cigarettes, fireworks and a private car worth approximately Taka 63.38 lakh during a drive in the border area under Adarsh Sadar Upazila of the district.

The operation was conducted late Fridy night by a patrol team from Barajala Border Outpost (BOP), operating under Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) in the Cumilla Sector, according to BGB officials.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, commander of Sultanpur Battalion, confirmed the matter this afternoon. 

He said that BGB personnel acted swiftly after detecting suspicious movement in the area. During the raid, they intercepted a private car being used to transport a large quantity of smuggled Indian cigarettes and various types of fireworks.

According to BGB sources, the seized goods have an estimated market value of Taka 63 lakh 38 thousand. 

Lt Col Shariful Islam emphasized that BGB remains vigilant in preventing smuggling activities along the border. 

"Regular patrols and intelligence surveillance have been intensified to ensure border security," he said, adding that operations against smuggling will continue as per directives from higher authorities.
