BAGERHAT, May 02, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 6,850 pieces of yaba tablets in two separate operations in the district.

During a drive conducted this morning, officials recovered 4,850 yaba tablets from a concealed compartment inside the oil tank area of a passenger bus, Parvati Travels Ltd., in front of Zarif Hotel at the Khanjahan Ali Mazar intersection in Sadar upazila.

During the operation, the bus driver's associate, Rabiul Islam, 24, was arrested for his alleged involvement in transporting the drugs. 

Sub-Inspector Bijoy Kumar Majumder of the DNC, Bagerhat, filed a case with Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station in connection with the incident.

In a separate operation late Friday night, DNC personnel arrested another alleged trader, Bahadur Hawlader, 25, with 2,000 yaba tablets from in front of the BRTA office in the district town around 11:10 pm.

Bahadur, son of Habib Hawlader of Rajeshwar village in Sharankhola upazila, was reportedly attempting to board an easy bike when he was detained and searched.

Inspector S M Zafrul Alam of the DNC filed a case with the same police station over the incident.

Deputy Director of the DNC in Bagerhat, Md Mizanur Rahman, said the bus was travelling from Chattogram to Rayenda and the arrest was made based on a tip-off. 

He added that both suspects, along with the seized drugs, have been handed over to the court following the filing of cases.
