RAJSHAHI, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - A colorful rally was held in Rajshahi today marking Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2026, with the slogan "Healthy Workers, Diligent Hands - A New Dawn Will Come".

The rally began in the morning in front of the Divisional Labor Office and marched through different streets of the city, drawing participation from officials, employees and workers from various sectors.

The programme was jointly organised by the Divisional Administration, District Administration, Divisional Labor Office, National Research and Training Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, Industrial Relations Institute and Gram Kalyan Kendra in Sapura.

Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Isha, Additional Divisional Commissioner Rezaul Alam Sarkar and Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan, along with representatives from different government departments were present at the rally.

Meanwhile, a similar rally and discussion meeting were also organised by the Paba Upazila Administration to observe the day.

Addressing the event as chief guest, Member of Parliament Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon said the country's large population should be viewed as a resource and transformed into skilled manpower.

"We are all workers. History shows that workers have achieved their rights through struggle," he said, stressing the need to strengthen state engagement for workers' welfare.

Highlighting the contribution of workers to national development, he said the government is working relentlessly to ensure fair rights and benefits for workers and considers it a key responsibility.
