Programmes taken to celebrate Independence Day in Rangpur 

RANGPUR, March 24, 2026 (BSS) – District administrations and various socio-cultural and political organisations have chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the country's Independence and National Day-2026 in a befitting manner.
 
District administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), district BNP and its affiliated bodies, educational institutions, socio-cultural and professional organizations have completed preparations to celebrate the day in a colourful manner. 
 
This time, the celebration of Independence and National Day-2026 in a completely democratic environment, carries a special significance as jubilant people from all walks of life are preparing to participate in this day-long celebration.
 
The celebration begins with 31 gun salutes at the Rangpur Police Lines ground at the zero hours on March 26. 
 
With the sunrise, the national flag will be hoisted atop all government, semi-government, private buildings, educational institutions and other establishments.
 
Floral wreaths will be placed at the ‘Shaheed Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ in the city’s Collectorate Surovi Uddyan with the sunrise. 
 
Divisional Commissioner, RpCC Administrator, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and District Council Administrator will place wreaths there first.
 
Later, leaders of BNP, its associate bodies and other political parties, valiant freedom fighters, heads of government departments and educational institutions, business bodies, civil society members, professionals and commoners will place wreaths. 
   
Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam with high officials will ceremonially hoist the national flag amid rendering of the National Anthem at Shaheed Abu Sayeed Stadium at 9:00 am on the day.
 
Later, he will take salute from the March pasts of scouts, girls guide, and students and children of different schools and witness their colorful displays there.  
 
Family members of freedom fighters, martyred and injured freedom fighters will be accorded receptions at the District Shilpokola Academy Auditorium at 11:00 am on that day. 
 
The district administration will arrange a special discussion on the War of Liberation and independence at the same venue at 11:30 am with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan in the chair.
 
A drawing competition on the Liberation War will be organized for children in various educational institutions at the district level scheduled time by the ‘District Shishu Academy’.
 
Screening of films on the War of Liberation at cinema halls without tickets and screening of documentary films at open places for school students at their own institutions will be organised on the day.
 
Special prayers and munajats will be offered at mosques, temples, pagodas, churches and other places of worship seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of martyred freedom fighters and good health of injured and living freedom fighters, continuous peace, progress and development of the nation.
 
Improved diets will be served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails, Shishu Paribars and orphanages, street children rehabilitation centers, children development centers, welfare centers for physically challenged people, shelters for aged citizens, vagabond centers and child day care centers.
 
In addition, Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local dailies and online portals will publish special supplements highlighting the importance of the day. 
           
The district and metropolitan units of BNP and its affiliates, freedom fighters, different political parties and organisations, Begum Rokeya University and other educational institutions have taken daylong programmes marking the day.
