NOAKHALI, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - More than two hundred Muslim devotees, followers of the Qaderia order (tariqa), in five villages of Begumganj, Kabirhat, and Sadar upazilas of Noakhali will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow (Friday).
In keeping with a tradition that has continued for nearly a hundred years, the people of these villages will once again celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr following Saudi Arabia a day earlier before the countrywide celebration this year.
They will observe Eid-ul-Fitr by offering Eid prayers in 10 mosques across the three upazilas tomorrow.
The villages are: Lakshminarayanpur and Harinarayanpur under Noakhali (municipality), Ramballavpur in Ghoshbag Union of Kabirhat upazila, and Basantabag and Fazilpur in Gopalpur Union of Begumganj upazila.
Eid congregations in these villages will be held at 8:00 am tomorrow.
Followers of the Qaderia order claim that their path originates from the teachings of the great saint Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA).
Therefore, they observe fasting and celebrate Eid one day earlier each year in accordance with Saudi Arabia. They also follow the same practice for both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha.
Md. Siraj Mia, a follower of the Qaderia order from Gopalpur Union of Begumganj, said following the path shown by their forefathers, they begin fasting and celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia. This year will be no exception, he said.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police TM Mosharraf Hossain said law enforcement agencies have taken maximum preparations to ensure that the celebrations remain peaceful.
