JHENAIDAH, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - A bicyclist was killed after being run over by a brick kiln tractor in Maheshpur upazila of the district.

The accident occurred around 5:30 pm today on the Maheshpur–Nepa road. The deceased, Nuh Mistri, 45, was the son of late Muslim Uddin of South Para village in Baghadangha under Maheshpur upazila.

Police have seized the tractor involved in the incident, but the driver remains at large.

According to police, Nuh Mistri was returning home by bicycle in the afternoon. When he reached in front of Amir Hossain’s house in Pallatipara of Baghadangha on the Maheshpur–Nepa road, a brick-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction ran over him, killing him on the spot.

Police have seized the tractor involved in the accident. However, the driver, Hossain Mia, 22, remains absconding. He is the son of late Alamin of Ghoshpur village in Maheshpur upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, said police patrols have been intensified in the area following the accident.

Legal proceedings from the victim’s family are underway, he said, adding the tractor has been seized, but the driver is still on the run. The body has been sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
