KHULNA, March 18, 2026 (BSS) -  Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today said initiatives will be taken to develop all city markets with modern facilities in phases.

He made the remarks after conducting daylong visits to several markets across Khulna.

Senior KCC officials and market leaders were present during the inspections.

Speaking to reporters and traders, Manju said the authorities are closely monitoring overall market management, prices of essential commodities, waste disposal, drainage systems, hygienic conditions and adequate lighting facility.

He said all markets would be brought under a phased inspection programme and necessary steps would be taken to transform them into modern markets.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s commitment, he said that there is no lack of sincerity in this regard and measures will be implemented considering the needs of both traders and consumers.

During the visit, the KCC administrator inspected Sheikhpara Market, Mistripara Market, Chandmari Market and Moylapota Meat Market.

He also visited the ongoing soil excavation work at the embankment of Chandmari Matiakhali canal.

Among others, KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, Executive Engineer Sheikh Md Masud Karim, Administrative Officer Molla Maruf Rashid, Sub-Assistant Engineers Sheikh Nazrul Islam and Amit Kanti Ghosh, Market Superintendent Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar and Senior License Officer Md Moniruzzaman Rahim were present.
