RAJSHAHI, March 18, 2026 (BSS)- Freedom fighter (FF) Shamsuzzohah of Paba Upazila in Rajshahi was laid to eternal rest with state honour.
His funeral prayer (janaza) and the state tribute ceremony were held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (March 18) at the Darusha High School playground in Paba.
Earlier, he passed away around 7:30 pm on Tuesday (March 17) while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
After the janaza, he was buried at the Sarishakuri graveyard in Darusha. He was 72.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, one son, and numerous relatives. His death has cast a shadow of grief over the local community.
During the state honour ceremony, a smartly turned-out squad from Karnahar Police Station presented a guard of honour in the presence of Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mehedi Hasan.
Also present was Member of Parliament for Rajshahi-3 constituency, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milan.
He said, “Freedom fighter Shamsuzzoha was a brave warrior who received training in India. His contribution to the Liberation War will be remembered with deep respect by the country's people. The sacrifices he made for the country’s independence will be remembered by the nation forever. It is because of their contributions that we are living in an independent country today. Everyone must come forward to inform the new generation about the true history of the Liberation War and uphold the honour of the freedom fighters.”
Others present at the janaza included former mayor of Nowhata Municipality Sheikh Maqbul Hossain, Paba Upazila BNP Member Secretary Abdur Razzaq, Joint Conveners Sultan Ahmed, Sohel Rana, Abdus Salam Master, former Jubo Dal leader Majdar Rahman, along with leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations.
