Two administrators assume charge of Barishal City Corporation, Zila Parishad

BARISHAL, Mar 16, 2026 (BSS) - Two newly appointed administrators of Barishal 
City Corporation (BCC) and Barishal Zila Parishad (BZP) have formally assumed 
their respective responsibilities, pledging to work for development.

Organizing Secretary of BNP Central Committee for Barishal Division Advocate 
Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin assumed charge as the administrator of BCC at 
around 12:30 pm.

Marking the occasion, a reception and gathering of distinguished persons was 
organized at the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar in Barishal.

Later, she formally assumed the responsibility at her office in the city 
corporation's Nagar Auditorium building.

Divisional Commissioner and BCC Administrator Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman 
formally handed over the charge to her.

Police Commissioner of Barishal, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the 
commanding officer of RAB-8, presidents and general secretaries of district 
and city BNP and other distinguished persons were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin said she wants to serve 
the people rather than act merely as an administrator and called for 
cooperation from all.

She also said she hopes to build a well-managed city corporation with the 
cooperation and advice of all and urged everyone to extend sincere support. 

She also mentioned that the Prime Minister has given Eid gifts to the 
sanitation workers of the City Corporation.

Besides, at around 11:30 am today, Assistant Organizing Secretary of 
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Central Committee for Barishal Division 
Akon Quddusur Rahman took charge as the BZP administrator at the 
administrator's office.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Ahsan Habib, who had been serving as the 
administrator of the Zila Parishad, formally handed over the charge to him. 


Leaders of Barishal city and district BNP and members of civil society were 
present on the occasion.

While assuming the responsibility, Quddusur Rahman said he want to run the 
institution in a fair, transparent and corruption-free manner following the 
directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said efforts would be made to transform the BZP into an effective, people-
oriented, modern and accountable institution with the cooperation of all.

In addition, measures would be taken to utilise the assets of the Zila 
Parishad for the welfare of the people, he added.
