BJWT distributes cheques among journalists, their children in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust (BJWT) has distributed the third instalment of financial grant cheques for the fiscal year 2025-2026 among journalists and their meritorious children here in the Rangpur division. 
 
The cheques were distributed at a function organized at the conference room of the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner on Saturday afternoon. 
 
BJWT Managing Director Mohammad Abdul Bashir, a prominent journalist, was present as the chief guest at the event and distributed the cheques among the recipients.

Abul Bashar said the current government is media-friendly and determined to work for the welfare of media workers. 
 
"The main work of BJWT is to provide financial assistance to the families of insolvent and distressed journalists," he said. 
 
He said that along with increasing the welfare activities of journalists, senior journalists will be brought under the pension system soon. 
 
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner and President of Rangpur BJWT unit Mohammad Enamul Ahsan said the media acts as a bridge between the government and the people. 
 
"The role of the media in advancing a democratic state is undeniable," he said, and urged the journalists to work with a positive mindset. 
 
Rangpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Rangpur Press Club Administrator Md Ramiz Alam, BJWT Deputy Director (Administration and Finance) ABM Rafiqul Islam, Rangpur Journalist Union President Salequzzaman Salek, Dinajpur Journalist Union General Secretary Mahfizul Islam Ripon, among others, also spoke at the event. 
 
At the event, 23 journalists from Rangpur division were given welfare grant cheques of Taka 11.50 lakh and 94 meritorious children of journalists were given scholarship cheques of Taka 15.96 lakh. 
 
Presidents, general secretaries of various journalist organizations in Rangpur, journalists and students were present at the cheque distribution ceremony, moderated by Rangpur Journalists Union General Secretary Sarker Mazharul Mannan.
