85,898 families to receive 858 metric tons of rice before Eid in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Mar 14, 2026 (BSS) - The government has allocated 858.98 metric tons of rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to distribute among 85,898 poor and distressed families in the district ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Distribution of the allocated rice has already begun in seven upazilas and two municipalities of the district, District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources confirmed today.

Of the total, 14,632 families in Sadar Upazila, 16,289 families in Singair Upazila, 14,586 families in Daulatpur Upazila, 8,288 families in Saturia Upazila, 9,959 families in Shibalaya Upazila, 7,470 families in Harirampur Upazila, 6,964 families in Ghior Upazila, 4,625 families in Manikganj Municipality, and 3,085 families in Singair Municipality will receive the assistance.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said each family will receive 10 kilograms of rice free of cost.

The distribution is being carried out according to lists prepared by ward-level committees and approved by the Upazila authorities, the sources added, noting that responsible officials from each area will be present during the distribution.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Lutfar Rahman said steps are being taken to ensure that all card-holding families receive their rice before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, helping them celebrate the festival.
