2 lakh families to get VGF rice as Eid gift in Chapainawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 206,858 families in district will get Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice as an Eid-ul-Fitr gift under the government's humanitarian assistance programme.

According to the district administration's Relief and Rehabilitation Office, a total of 2,068.580 metric tons of rice has been allocated for distribution at the rate of 10 kilograms per family across five upazilas and four municipalities in the district.

Shibganj upazila, a border area with the largest population in the district, has received the highest allocation. A total of 738.550 metric tons of rice has been allotted against 73,855 VGF cards in the upazila.

Besides, 54,863 families in Sadar, 33,811 in Gomostapur, 17,492 in Nachol and 9,877 in Bholahat upazila will receive assistance under the programme.

In municipal areas, 4,625 VGF card holders each from Chapainawabganj Sadar, Shibganj and Rahanpur municipalities, while 3,085 card holders from Nachol municipality will get rice.

The district administration has directed authorities to strictly follow the government's "Humanitarian Assistance Programme Implementation Guidelines 2012-2013" while selecting beneficiaries for the VGF programme.

According to the guidelines, priority will be given to families who have no arable land apart from their homestead, those dependent on daily wages or begging, households without an earning male member, and families recently affected by natural disasters.

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Relief and Rehabilitation Office Zahid Hasan said the district administration is committed to ensuring that the government's special Eid allocation reaches the truly needy.
