KHULNA, March 11, 2026 (BSS) – Eid-ul-Fitr shopping in Khulna has gained momentum as colourful panjabis displayed in shops and showrooms are drawing a large number of buyers, with traders reporting brisk sales ahead of the festival.
With only eight days left before Eid, shoppers who have already purchased other festive items such as dresses, shoes and sandals are now thronging panjabi outlets to complete their Eid shopping.
A visit to several markets, including the Dakbangla intersection and Railway Biponi Bitan Market, today showed a significant number of customers browsing through shops and roadside stalls in search of their preferred panjabis.
Traders said sales are currently good and are expected to increase further during the remaining days of Ramadan.
Shop owners said they had stocked their outlets well in advance considering customers’ demand. Their stores are now filled with attractive panjabis of different brands and fabrics from both domestic and foreign sources.
Market sources said panjabis made from fabrics such as Zafran, cotton, cotton poplin and cherry cloth are among the most popular choices for customers this Eid season. Prices range from around Tk 600 to Tk 2,500 depending on the fabric and design.
Mamun Khan, a salesperson at K I Fashion in Railway Market, said sales have remained good since the beginning of Ramadan.
“Customers from different income groups come to this market. Young, middle-aged and elderly people are buying panjabis. Many buyers are also choosing panjabi-pajama sets instead of shirts and pants for Eid,” he said.
A little further inside the market, a shop named “Panjabi Ghar” has been drawing attention as it exclusively sells panjabis.
The shop offers a wide range, including luxury panjabis made from Pakistani fabrics, Kabuli-style panjabis, and those made from Pakistani cherry fabric, Loisa, Zafran and Chinese fabrics.
The owner of the shop, Huzaifa, said luxury panjabis are being sold between Tk 2,000 and Tk 4,000, while Kabuli panjabis range from Tk 1,500 to Tk 4,000.
“Luxury panjabis are in higher demand this season and customers of all ages are visiting our shop,” he said, adding that fabric prices have increased compared to last year, which has pushed up the retail price of panjabis.
Several other outlets, including Mahi Fashion, Shuvo Fashion and Unique Panjabi in the same market, were also seen crowded with buyers. Shop owners expressed satisfaction over the growing sales of panjabi-pajama sets.
Ali Abrar, a resident of Nirala in Khulna city, came to Nixon Market with his mother to buy a panjabi. He said he needed an extra panjabi in addition to his shirt and pants for Eid.
“I bought a luxury panjabi made from Pakistani fabric and I’m very happy with it,” he said.
Shahidul Islam, an employee of a private company, said Kabuli panjabi is his preferred choice. As he could not find a ready-made set matching his preference, he bought fabric from a shop at Akhtar Chamber to have it tailored.
Another buyer, Asadur Rahman, said he came to the market to purchase panjabis for donation to an orphanage.
“If the price fits my budget, I plan to buy around 500 panjabis,” he said.
