NATORE, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - The government initiative has begun in the district to provide milk, eggs, and meat at affordable prices for poor and needy residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

The program was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen at 9:30 am today at the premises of the District Muktijoddha Complex building in the town.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner said considering the purchasing power of the people, the government has taken the initiative to sell beef and eggs at subsidized rates to help meet the demand for animal protein. She also said the scope of such public welfare programs will be expanded in the future.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Selim Uddin told BSS that under the joint initiative of the district administration and the Livestock Department, 200 kilograms of beef will be sold at Taka 650 per kilogram today and tomorrow.

He added that eggs will be sold at the prevailing subsidized rate of Taka 30 each under the program.

Meanwhile, the district livestock department has also launched a separate initiative across the six upazila livestock offices with the support of local farmers to supply milk and eggs at affordable prices.

Under this program, milk is being sold at Taka 70 per liter, while eggs are available at Taka 30 per four pieces.

Officials said the initiative will continue until 25th of Ramadan to help residents purchase essential protein-rich foods at reasonable prices during the holy month.
