RAJBARI, March 9, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out in Rajbari on Monday morning gutted at least 23 shops and godowns, leaving three firefighters injured and causing an estimated loss of around Taka 75 lakh.
According to Rajbari Fire Service Station Deputy Director Sohel Rana, the blaze started around 11:00 am at a cotton processing shop.
Local sources initially suspected that the fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit. However, many residents believe the blaze may have started from a mosquito coil inside a nearby jute godown.
The fire quickly spread due to the presence of highly flammable materials in the area. Several small and large shops, jute godowns and a cotton processing factory were completely gutted in the incident.
Three firefighters-Sohel Rana, Nur Alam and Leader Rahman-were injured while trying to bring the fire under control.
Fire service personnel managed to control the blaze after intensive efforts.
