RANGPUR, March 6, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main
accused in the murder of an elder sister who protested against the sexual
proposal made to her younger sister in Kurigram from Rangpur on Thursday
night.

The arrested killer is Md Abul Kalam, 35, son of late Hossain Ali of Char
Harikesh village under Sadar Police Station of Kurigram district, said a
press release issued here this afternoon.

According to the complaint filed by the plaintiff, the arrested accused and
his accomplices proposed to the younger sister of the victim Shahida Khatun
of the same area to have physical intercourse in exchange for Taka 5000.

When the matter was reported to the victim and the victim's younger brother,
they called for a village arbitration against the arrested accused.

But since the arrested accused was not present on the day of arbitration, the
matter remained unresolved.

For this reason, when the victim went to wash rice for cooking in the tube
well in their backyard, the arrested accused and his accomplices, who were
already waiting, slit the victim's throat with a sharp weapon at 7:30 pm on
January 14, 2026.

In view of the incident, the victim's father Md Saifur Rahman filed a murder
case with the Kochakata police station of Nageswari upazila in Kurigram
district on January 16, 2026.

The incident was a very tragic and gruesome murder, which caused widespread
outrage in the area.

Considering the importance of the incident, RAB-13, along with other law
enforcement agencies, started detective activities to arrest the absconding
accused.

On a tip-off, a smart team of the RAB-13's Sadar Company from Rangpur in a
raid arrested the main absconding accused Md Abul Kalam from the Station Road
area under Badarganj Police Station of Rangpur district at 9:40 pm on
Thursday.

further legal action, the release added.
