RAJSHAHI, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - Experts at a workshop stressed the need for united efforts to protect children from involvement in drug carrying and trafficking and ensure their proper development.

Speakers urged all government and non-government organizations to collaborate so that children can be guided toward becoming responsible citizens.

The remarks came during a divisional workshop titled "What Needs to Be Done to Prevent Drug Abuse" held Wednesday at the conference room of the Divisional Office of the Department of Narcotics Control in Rajshahi.

Heads of drug rehabilitation centers from the division's eight districts attended the programme.

Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, Commissioner of Rajshahi Division, addressed the event as chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr. Muhammad Shahjahan attended as special guest, with Ali Aslam Hossain, Additional Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, in the chair.

Commissioner Dr. Bazlur Rashid highlighted the role of society in nurturing neglected youth and guiding them back to the right path.

"It is easier to raise a child than to work with a drug addict. Drug rehabilitation centers are playing a vital role in helping young people overcome addiction and return to a constructive life," he said.

He also noted that drug seizures have increased significantly and called for stricter monitoring of border areas.

"People living near borders often act as drug couriers. Families involved in transporting drugs sometimes see it as a business rather than a crime. This mindset must change, and achieving that requires collective effort," he added.

The workshop was attended by heads of 61 drug rehabilitation centers operating across Rajshahi Division.
