MYMENSINGH, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has distributed financial assistance totaling Taka 5.29 crore among 133 families affected by road accidents in the Mymensingh division.
The cheques were handed over on Wednesday morning at the Mymensingh City Corporation auditorium by BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed. The beneficiaries included families of both deceased victims and those injured in road accidents across four districts of the division.
According to officials, compensation ranging from Taka 1 lakh to Taka 3 lakh was provided to each injured victim, while Taka 5 lakh was granted to the families of those who lost their lives.
A district-wise breakdown of the assistance shows that: Mymensingh district received Taka 3.4 crore through 76 cheques, Jamalpur district received Taka 1.27 crore for 35 beneficiaries, Netrokona district received Taka 7.8 lakh for 18 beneficiaries and Sherpur district received Taka 20 lakh for 4 beneficiaries.
The distribution programme was organized by the district administration and BRTA's Mymensingh divisional office.
Speaking at the event, Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed emphasized the government's responsibility to support families affected by road accidents. He stressed the need to strengthen law enforcement measures alongside raising public awareness to prevent such incidents.
He also said that the BRTA Trustee Board is working to ensure prompt financial assistance to victims and their families.
The programme was presided over by Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md. Saifur Rahman. Among others present were BRTA Director (Audit and Law) Rubaiyat-e-Ashiq, Deputy Director (Engineering) Subrata Kumar Debnath of the Mymensingh Divisional Office, Additional District Magistrate Md. Asaduzzaman, BRTA Executive Magistrate Iffat Hashem, District Motor Vehicle Owners Association President Alamgir Mahmud, along with BRTA officials and representatives of motor vehicle owners' and workers' organizations.
