Fire at warehouse in Rajshahi, extensive damage reported

RAJSHAHI, March 2, 2026 (BSS)- A devastating fire broke out at a warehouse in 
the Shyampur Paschimpara area under Katakhali Police Station in Rajshahi.

The fire started around 10:40 pm on Sunday, Fire Service and Civil Defence 
sources said here today.

"After overnight efforts, firefighters were able to bring the blaze under 
control. The incident caused extensive damage," it added.

According to Fire Service and local sources, the warehouse belongs to Zubayer 
Hossain, a distributor of various packaged food products.

The fire broke out at the warehouse at night and quickly spread throughout 
the entire facility. The Fire Service was later informed.
 
Businessman Zubayer Hossain said a large quantity of food products had been 
stored in the warehouse. Various brands of packaged food items were 
completely destroyed in the fire.
 
He claimed that the total loss amounts to approximately Taka 2 crore. 
However, Walif Hossain, Station Officer of the Rajshahi University Station of 
the Fire Service, said that their preliminary report estimates the damage at 
around Taka 80 lakh.
 
In addition to the University Station, firefighters from the Rajshahi Sadar 
Station also worked to control the blaze, he added. 

After battling the fire throughout the night, they extinguished it and 
returned to the station at around 8:30 am today. The cause of the fire is 
still unknown, he added.
